Toronto police have charged two people after an explosion rocked a 19th floor apartment unit in Parkdale on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the explosion was caused after occupants of the apartment mishandled combustibles during a drug manufacturing process.

The explosion happened at around 3:15 p.m. at 105 West Lodge Ave., near Lansdowne Ave. and Queen St. W.

Police said two people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the explosion, were taken to hospital and were arrested shortly after.

There was a significant amount of property damage to the unit, police said. A large field of debris was scattered at the ground below the unit as well.

No other people were injured in the incident.

Rachelle Moore, 53, and Ararat Abryamyan, 43, both of Toronto, have each been charged with negligent arson, common nuisance, possession of schedule II substance, and production of schedule II substance. They are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on March 29.
