CLEVELAND, Ohio — Is Disney’s upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” a shot-for-shot remake of the original?
You certainly would think that by watching the film’s first two trailers, which were, in fact, edited into shot-for-shot re-creations of the trailers for the 1991 animated classic film.
But, as seen in a clip from the opening number, “Belle,” it’s evident the live-action version does indeed stray from the original.
For example, while Belle (Emma Watson) is still seen walking through her poor provincial town, being judged by the singing townsfolk, she doesn’t stop to talk the baker, but the apothecary instead. Also, the book she is reading is not about an ogre and a beanstalk, but “Romeo and Juliet.”
“Beauty and the Beast” hits theaters on March 17.
Here’s the original, for comparison sake.
