Stolen auto, Great Northern Mall: Police went to the mall parking lot about 9:20 p.m. Feb. 9 after an employee said she came out of work to discover her 2003 Jeep Liberty had been stolen. The woman reported her title and registration were inside the vehicle along with tax information. An officer advised her to watch for possible identification theft.

Possession of marijuana, Driscoll Lane: An officer was dispatched Feb. 10 about a suspicious vehicle. The officer stopped the car as it started to pull away. When the officer approached, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The driver turned over a backpack containing a bag of marijuana and a bottle of spiced rum. The officer quoted the driver as saying: “Here, you can have it all.” The driver then told the officer of personal problems involving a family member who, he said, was recovering from drug addiction. Police charged the driver with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

Fraud, Lorain road: A resident came to the police station Feb. 11 to report he was the victim of a fraud. The man said he received a call from a bill collector telling him he owed more than $775 for an outstanding cable bill for a residence in Detroit. The man said he never lived at the Detroit address and said the same address was used in 2016 when other fraudulent accounts were opened in his name.

Petty theft, Brookpark Road: Police responded to Walmart Feb. 7 about store employees having a male shoplifter in custody. The man entered the grocery store about 11 a.m. and conceal coffee filters inside a backpack on the rear of his scooter. The man then went around the store putting additional items in the backpack, according to a police report. He was stopped outside the store with more than $143 in items he had not purchased. The man was charged with petty theft and possession of criminal tools.

Criminal damaging, Windsor Drive: A Spruce Elementary School custodian called police early Feb. 9 to report coming to school and finding someone overnight had driven across the grass around the building. The damage to the grass was minor.
