The Animal Welfare League of Queen Anne’s County will accept 21 dogs from an overcrowded animal shelter in Louisiana on Monday.
The Queenstown shelter will take in the dogs from Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society near New Orleans, where the destruction from a recent tornado storm has led to the overcrowding, according to Queen Anne’s County shelter manager Kirstyn Northrop Cobb.
The addition is the first time that the Eastern Shore shelter has been able to accept dogs from outside of the county.
“Up until this point, we have not had the open space for outside dogs, but thanks to the support of our community, we have seen record-breaking adoptions and therefore have the open space for dogs outside of our community,” Northrop Cobb wrote in an email to The Baltimore Sun.
