With the NBA’s All-Star Game break officially on, Bulls players scattered for parts mostly unknown after their dramatic 104-103 victory over the Celtics on Thursday night at the United Center.

If Bobby Portis had his druthers, the Bulls would be right back in action Friday. That will happen when you’re coming off your best game of the season.

"Oh man, I wish I could have a game (Friday)," Portis said with a smile. "But that’s how it is. I’m going to enjoy my break and enjoy my family."

The second-year forward also will enjoy his season-high 19-point effort — one shy of his career best — and the energy jolt he sent through the Bulls during his 25 minutes, 38 seconds of court time.

"I just tried to play with a lot of energy," Portis said. "That’s one thing I feel like the team was missing was a guy who can give it his all and (who) plays with a high-energy level. That’s one thing I feel like I can help the team out with."

Portis did just that as the first big man off the bench Thursday and he finished 8-for-13 from the floor with a 3-pointer and also pulled down eight rebounds.

"Bobby was terrific," coach Fred Hoiberg said. "Obviously with the shots that he made but also with just how hard he competes. He’s a guy who is going to battle on the boards. It was good to see him knock down some baskets."

Portis found himself in unfamiliar territory late in the game: On the floor. Hoiberg ran with Portis throughout the fourth quarter as the Bulls pulled off their second consecutive victory.

"It has been the whole year since I’ve been in that situation," Portis said. "It has been fun just to enjoy the ride and the ups and downs of the season. It has made me a better person and player having to sit and watch other people play."

On Thursday, it was Portis’ turn and the result was a confidence-builder for the stretch run of the season.

"I feel like me personally I needed this for a confidence-booster," Portis said. "I always have high confidence but I feel like this will help me even more."
