BUFFALO – This much hasn’t changed: Rink Rat Ryan O’Reilly was one of the last Sabres to leave the ice after the morning skate Thursday at the KeyBank Center. Then the 26-year-old center looked ahead to facing the Avalanche that night.
I was going to say “facing his former Avalanche teammates” there, but that would have been a bit misleading. Out of curiosity, I ran down the Avs’ roster and was surprised by the tally: Only seven players suiting up for Colorado Thursday night played with O’Reilly, who was traded in June 2015.
“It’s always a little weird, having some good friends over there and being in that organization for a long time,” O’Reilly said.
I asked him his reaction to the Avalanche’s struggles this season.
