A 22-year-old man who was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in North Hollywood was identified Thursday by authorities.

Steven Cervantes died at the scene Wednesday morning near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Sherman Way, according to officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Authorities did not have a place of residence listed for Cervantes.

The strike occurred about 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Fire Department. There were no injuries to the 69 passengers or crew, an Amtrak official later confirmed.

Vernae Graham, a spokeswoman for Amtrak Pacific, said in a statement Wednesday that the train struck and killed a “trespasser” between the Burbank and Van Nuys stations. The northbound train operates between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, she said.

“This did not occur at a crossing,” Graham said.

According to Metrolink, Cervantes was struck by Amtrak Train 761, prompting closure of the tracks between the Burbank Bob Hope Airport Station and the Van Nuys Station.

Metrolink’s Ventura County Line Train 110 to Los Angeles was held at the Van Nuys Station before being canceled, officials said, adding that buses were sent to accommodate passengers.

Metrolink’s Ventura County Line Train 107 to Chatsworth was also canceled Wednesday.
