Out of all the characters from the Justice League, it seems like it is always Aquaman who is belittled or overlooked. However, things are about to change now that Jason Momoa is going to star as the King of the Seven Seas in his standalone film in 2018.
Momoa teased details about the movie recently, saying that it will definitely blow fans’ minds away. “I read the [Aquaman] script and let me just put it this way, I’ve never seen a movie that’s anything like this,” he said, according to Cinema Blend. “It’s going to be a world that you’ve never seen before, which is really cool. We went to space, we traveled all over different worlds, but we never went underwater. So it’s just a really cool spin on what’s below and it uses a lot of great movies that I already love – whether that be ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ to ‘Star Wars’ to ‘Lord of the Rings’ to ‘Romancing the Stone.’”
“It has a lot of really cool adventure, it’s funny and heroic, and there’s a lot of different characters and a lot of different worlds that we get to go to,” he added.
Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter said that Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are planning to join the cast of director James Wan’s movie. Kidman is going to play Aquaman’s mother, while Abdul-Mateen is going to play his nemesis, the Black Manta.
Aside from Momoa, Kidman and Abdul-Mateen, other stars who are going to appear in the movie include Amber Heard, Willem Defoe and Patrick Wilson.
Aquaman, whose alias is Arthur Curry, is the half-Atlantean and half-human superhero who was first introduced in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” According to Entertainment Weekly, Momoa is going to reprise his role as Aquaman in this year’s “Justice League” film before appearing in his standalone film.
