SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio
Robbery, Cedar Road:
Three masked males tried unsuccessfully to steal an ATM from True North Shell around 2 a.m. Feb. 10 in a smash and grab robbery. They smashed a van through the store’s south wall and left in a second vehicle. The van that was left behind was found to have been stolen out of Cleveland Heights. It was used in a similar incident in Beachwood the previous day, in which an ATM was stolen from a BP gas station.
Counterfeiting, Warrensville Center Road:
A man said Feb. 5 an employee of his business received a counterfeit $20 bill as part of his change from a purchase he made at Walmart. Officers spoke to the Walmart staff and were told the only way the bill would have made it into the cash register would be if a customer paid with it and there would be no way to trace it.
Theft, Warrensville Center Road:
A Walmart employee reported Feb. 6 a habitual thief tried to steal 30 cans of baby formula, but fled from the store when asked to see a receipt. He said the Cleveland woman, 35, is known to Walmart employees because of a company-wide notification banning her from all stores. He said she has attempted to steal $5,000 worth of merchandise from at least ten Walmart stores in the last five years. Officers did not locate the woman.
Theft, Warrensville Center Road:
An East Cleveland woman, 25, was arrested at Walmart Feb. 9 for the suspected theft of cell phone cases, valued at a total of $138.96. In the presence of her 12-year-old sister, she told officers she was 17-years-old. She was charged with theft, resisting arrest, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing official business. Her sister never denied the false information she provided and also contributed to her providing it.
Theft, Warrensville Center Road:
A Maple Heights boy, 14, was suspected of the theft of $128.88 worth of merchandise from Walmart Feb. 9. His mother was in the store with him and was unaware that he was shoplifting. Charges will be filed in juvenile court.
Fraud, Winston Road:
A resident reported Feb. 8 there was about $1,000 in unauthorized charges on his bank account. He knew at least two purchases were made online. His bank is investigating.
Stolen vehicle, South Belvoir Boulevard:
A woman reported Feb. 9 her vehicle was stolen out of her driveway sometime during the overnight hours. It has been locked and was taken without keys.
Burglary, Suffolk Road:
A woman reported at 4:56 p.m. Feb. 9 two unknown males kicked in her front door, but fled when they saw her in the home. She said they left in an older model white pick-up truck. Responding officers did not locate the truck. Several similar incidents have recently been reported in the city.
Theft, Warrensville Center Road:
A Cleveland Heights woman, 29, was arrested at Walmart Feb. 3 for the suspected theft of $284 worth of merchandise. Among the items she failed to pay for at the self-checkout were men’s underwear and socks; food, medication and health and beauty items.
Found property, South Belvoir Boulevard:
A man turned in to police a rifle magazine with 22 rounds of ammunition Feb. 8 that he said was located in the grass median while he was supervising an adult community service cleanup. It was believed it had been recently dropped or thrown where it was found, due to its new condition.
Theft, Warrensville Center Road:
A Cleveland man, 33, was arrested at Walmart Feb. 7 after he was seen cutting open merchandise packaging and concealing items in his clothing. He was found in possession of two box cutters. He was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools and it was learned he was recently released from jail, stemming from a prior theft offense.
