The 44th President of the United States was the nation’s first Hoop Head in Chief.
Some of his predecessors enjoyed the game, particularly Bill Clinton, but Barack Obama adored it. He ran pick-up games at the White House, befriended LeBron James and starred in an annual “SportsCenter” segment dubbed “Barack-etology.”
Obama filled out eight men’s and seven women’s NCAA tournament brackets during his presidency. (He was not very good at it, a forgivable offense considering his other job.)
It is a tradition that will not continue with his successor, Donald Trump.
The White House “respectfully declined” an invitation to continue the presidential bracket, ESPN confirmed to the Washington Post.
It is entirely possible this is the first time Trump has declined to stamp his name on something, though that is subject to change.
“We look forward to working with ESPN on another opportunity in the near future,” White House spokeswoman Hope Hicks told the Post.
