A fundraising effort to raise money for Orlando’s tech community appears ready to fall short.

A Kickstarter campaign that hoped to raise $165,000 to support several groups here has raised less than one-third of its goal with less than two days remaining to raise the rest.

Kickstarter campaigns must reach their goal or the money gets returned to those donors.

In a mea culpa email sent to supporters, Gregg Pollack took the blame.

“I screwed up, set the goal too high and didn’t give us enough time to fundraise,” he said in the email, which he forwarded to the Orlando Sentinel. “I take accountability for this and am truly sorry.”

The campaign had raised $47,496 as of Wednesday afternoon.

It had been meant to provide funding for the coworking space Canvs, the tech organization Orlando Tech Association, entrepreneurial training program Starter Studio and FireSpring Fund.

FireSpring is similar to Starter Studio but focuses on more-advanced companies.

In Monday’s letter, Pollack said “the odds of reaching our Tech Community (Kickstarter) goal by Thursday are extremely low.”

Pollack did ask those who had donated to honor their pledge using the Canvs website or in a check.
