Reports of a “long gun” on campus today led police to lock down two Simi Valley schools this morning as they search for a possible suspect.

Simi Valley Police said they received a report of a person with the weapon walking onto the Royal High School campus about 8:21 a.m.

As a result, the campuses of Royal High and Saint Rose of Lima Catholic school have been locked down as a precaution, police said.

Officers are searching the Royal High campus for the possible gunman with the help of a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter, said Simi Valley police.

Police have closed Royal Avenue to traffic between Crocker and Pride streets.

As of 10 a.m., all students were reported safe, and the search for a possible gunman was ongoing, Simi Valley police said.
