The Bears have finalized a two-year contract extension with offensive lineman Eric Kush, fortifying their depth up front. The team announced the deal with the fifth-year veteran Wednesday morning, a move that comes before the opening of free agency March 9.

Kush joined the Bears in September after the Rams cut him and wound up making four starts at left guard when Josh Sitton was sidelined because of injury.

The Bears figure to have their five opening-day line starters from 2016 back with tackles Bobby Massie and Charles Leno Jr., guards Sitton and Kyle Long and center Cody Whitehair all under contract. Kush’s return will offer experience and needed depth on the interior of the line.

Long is coming off a serious season-ending ankle injury that required surgery. The three-time Pro Bowl selection will also undergo surgery soon to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Sitton, who turns 31 this summer, was also set back by an ankle injury last season, missing three full games and used for only two snaps in a Week 13 victory over the 49ers.
