It just was not Raspberry’s week.
She was expected to co-star in an octopus sex show – the Seattle Aquarium’s folly prone Valentine’s Day event. Then Raspberry, a 60-pound giant Pacific octopus, started laying eggs.
The aquarium wanted none of that action.
Rather than a well-viewed coupling, Raspberry got a one-way trip back into Elliott Bay.
Raspberry got to spend Valentine’s Day with a few thousand of her eggs in her new den. Dad-topus didn’t even send flowers.
Equally jilted was her would-be partner, Pancake. He remains at the aquarium until later in February, when he too will splashdown into Puget Sound.

Octopus Week begins Saturday at the downtown Seattle aquarium, and continues through Feb. 26. Aquarium staff expects to release additional octopuses on Saturday and Feb. 25.
