A body discovered Saturday belongs to a man who was swept out to sea while carrying his 3-year-old son last month.
Jayson Dean Thomas, a 31-year-old from Elmira, was caught by a sneaker wave while walking on the beach near Floras Lake on Jan. 15, Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said. Thomas was carrying his son in a backpack-like child carrier.
The waves, caused by an approaching storm, swept away Thomas and his son, Frasier said.
Thomas’ body was found on Horsfall Beach on Saturday, Frasier said. He apparently died in an accidental drowning, Frasier said.
