A section of Interstate 70 in Sewickley Township was closed for more than four hours from Monday night into early Tuesday morning because of a multiple vehicle accident that closed the eastbound lanes of the interstate, the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety said.
The accident involving three tractor-trailers and two other vehicles occurred three miles east of the New Stanton exit at 11:30 p.m., a Public Safety supervisor said. Injuries were reported, but the identities of those injured and the extent of injuries was not available Tuesday morning.
A PennDOT spokesman said traffic was diverted from the busy highway, which was not reopened until about 4 a.m.
State police at Belle Vernon investigated the accident, but a report was not available Tuesday morning.
Herminie Fire Chief Eric Kline could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning.
