PENNSVILLE TWP. — Two people have been charged with stealing chickens and a duck from a local farm.
Pennsville Chief of Police Allen J. Cummings said the owner of the Smith Farm contacted police last week to report someone had tampered with surveillance cameras there and then absconded with some of the animals that lived there.
At the farm, eggs, produce and other items are sold, mostly on the honor system.
According to Cummings, one of the “numerous” cameras at the farm was able to capture the license plate of the vehicle the two people allegedly involved in the critter theft.

Through their investigation, Cummings said police were able to charge Jessica Riable, 22, of Jackson Township, and Jacquelin Berdux, 33, of Burlington with the thefts.
Riable is facing charges of theft, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. Berdux faces those charges along with criminal trespass.
The value of the animals taken is estimated at $60.
While police had signed complaints against Riable and Berdux, as of late Monday the pair had not yet come to the police headquarters to be officially charged.
Also, the chief said, the pilfered chickens and ducks had not been returned.
