CRANFORD — A township man was arrested and charged with a robbery at an Ohio bank last month in which a man threatened to blow up the bank if employees called police, authorities said.
Karl Schlenker, 60, was arrested outside his township home Monday where Cranford police assisted officers from Grandview Heights, Oh., in apprehending the suspect, authorities said.
They said Schlenker was taken into custody without incident.
Police said Schlenker was a suspect in the Jan. 31 robbery of PNC Bank in Grandview Heights, Oh, a city near Columbus.
Grand Heights police Sgt. Ryan Starns said a man passed a note to a teller demanding cash and stating he had a bomb that would detonate if the authorities were notified.
As he left the bank, the man placed a bag that supposedly contained the bomb next to the door as he exited, Starns said.
He said police obtained a security camera photo of the robber.
Schlenker is charged with bank robbery and he is being held for an extradition hearing.
