WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two people were killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash, and State Highway Patrol troopers believe drugs and phone use are factors.

Mark Horton, 64, of Sheffield Township, and Cody Wallace, 21, of New London both died in the crash, which occurred at about 1:28 p.m. on Ohio 58 (South Main Street), just south of Jones Road in Wellington Township.

In a news release from the Sandusky Post of the Highway Patrol, troopers say Horton was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan south on Ohio 58, while Wallace was driving north in a 2016 Ford Fusion. The Fusion went left-of-center, hitting the Caravan head-on.

It is suspected Wallace was under the influence of drugs and also was using his cell phone when the crash occurred, troopers say.

Horton was wearing a seatbelt but was trapped in the Caravan and pronounced dead at the scene.

Wallace was not wearing a seatbelt but also died at the scene, trapped in his vehicle.

There were no reports of other passengers or injuries in the two vehicles.

The crash remains under investigation.
