OAKLAND — The possible repeal of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, will be discussed Monday at a forum organized by U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer.
Gottheimer, (D-5th Dist.), will discuss “the impact that repealing the Affordable Care Act without any replacement would have on retirement security and the importance of protecting critical programs like Social Security and Medicare,” according to an announcement from his office.
In January, Gottheimer said he would support improving the law, but that repealing it without a replacement in place could worsen health care premium costs and decrease coverage, among other complications.
Supporters of Obamacare have been protesting some House Republicans over their backing of a repeal. Those protests included a demonstration outside the Morristown district office of Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen.
Monday’s forum will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Oakland Senior Center.
Gottheimer defeated seven-term Republican Rep. Scott Garrett in November and took office Jan. 3.
His district includes parts of Bergen, Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties.
