If you’re looking for some grand Valentine’s Day gesture — or if you find yourself in a last-second scramble — a Slate Belt auction house has your answer. At least, if your sweetheart is into some retro Poconos kitsch.
Teel Auctions in Upper Mount Bethel Township is auctioning off a two-person, 80-inch heart-shaped tub from a Poconos resort on Tuesday (which is Valentine’s Day, in case you forgot). Proceeds from the sale will go toward the American Cancer Society, the auction house said in a news release.
“This is a fun item to sell but one that’s very meaningful,” Teel Auctions president Robert C. Teel, a cancer survivor, said in the release.

In 2005, Teel Auctions said it sold more than 20 of the tubs when Mt. Airy Lodge transitioned from a resort to a casino. More than 5,000 bidders from around the country were interested, though most planned to use them for outdoor aquatic gardens rather than gestures of love, Teel said.
The auction is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday. Bidders can participate in person at the auction house, 1101 Allegheny Road, or online at live.teelauctions.com.
