Saratoga Springs — Fans of opera and environmental art trudged through the snow covered landscape of Saratoga Spa State Park Saturday to partake in an open-air performance presented by Opera Saratoga.

It featured Grammy-nominated baritone Christopher Dylan Herbert in “Winterize,” an outdoor adaptation of Franz Schubert’s “Winterreise,” reimagined for baritone and transistor radios.

Created by Herbert in collaboration with Make Music New York and director JJ Hudson, the performance led the audience through an outdoor route to enhance the sequence of Schubert’s iconic song cycle. The audience participated by accompanying Herbert with hand-held transistor radios that amplified Schubert’s piano part, played by Timothy Long, and soundscaped by Jonathan Zalben.
