A Virginia mother allegedly shot dead her 6-year-old daughter — and then called police to report the shooting.
Darla Hise, 27, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Abigail Hise.
Hise called 911 multiple times after the Saturday night incident, but would not provide a name or address a law enforcement source told People.
Bath County authorities were able to get to the scene after tracing the phone call to her home, where they pronounced the kindergartner dead.
Hise’s son, who is 3-years-old, was present, but unharmed. He was placed in the custody of a relative, according to People.
Investigators have not determined what transpired inside the home before Abigail’s death.
“We’re waiting on some reports back from the hospital, from the medical examiner,” Sheriff Robert Plecker told WDBJ. “We still have some people we want to talk to, so it’s an ongoing investigation.”
In her obituary, Abigail was remembered as a happy 6-year-old. A memorial service was held on Thursday.
“She was a beautiful, happy child who loved to ride her bike, draw, color and play with her little brother, ‘Ben Ben.’ She was a frequent visitor to Lake Moo Maw where she loved to swim and play in the lake,” the obituary said.
