Route 28 northbound is closed Friday afternoon at the Highland Park Bridge because of a multi-vehicle accident, according to PennDOT.

All traffic is being detoured across the bridge.

The incident occurred at 3:44 p.m., according to an Allegheny County dispatcher. Fire, police and EMS were called to the scene.

At least one person was transported, the dispatcher said.

Camera footage from 511pa.com indicates that the vehicles collided near the Highland Park Bridge interchange with Route 28. Fire trucks are blocking the northbound lane with traffic being diverted up the ramp toward the bridge.

PennDOT is encouraging motorists to consider an alternate route.
