CLEVELAND, Ohio — In a blatant and, frankly, heroic attempt to prevent the catch phrase “Say hello to my little friend” from disappearing from the national lexicon, Universal announced it is rebooting “Scarface” for 2018.

The film, with a script polished by Oscar winners Joel and Ethan Coen (“No Country For Old Men”), is scheduled for release on Aug. 10, 2018. Diego Luna (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) will play the lead, according to Variety.

Universal called the new movie “an explosive re-imagining of one of the most iconic sagas in film history.”

The pic is still looking for a director after Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) dropped out to make a sequel to “The Equalizer,” Variety said. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the two frontrunners are David MacKenzie (“Hell or High Water”) and Peter Berg (“Patriots Day”).

The upcoming film with be third time “Scarface” — the story of an immigrant who makes it big as a gangster — has been brought to the big screen. Howard Hawks directed the first one starring Paul Muni in 1932. It was followed in 1983 by a remake starring Al Pacino in an instant classic directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone.

While that new movie was set in Miami, the new film is said to take place in Los Angeles.
