A Bethlehem woman is accused of using a fake identification and trying to withdraw $2,300 from a nonexistent account at a bank in Hanover Township, Northampton County.

Matie R. Young, 19, of the 700 block of Pawnee Street, claimed to be Sasha Cohen during the visit about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday to TD Bank, 3759 Bath Pike (Route 512), according to Colonial Regional police.

Bank staff had already gotten an email from other branches saying a female was using a fake ID under the name Sasha Cohen to obtain money, police said. With Young at the drive-through, bank employees stalled her and called police, court records say.

Police arrived and spoke with Young, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle in the drive-through and whom the bank manager identified as the scammer, police said; Young had no ID but told the officer her name was Sasha Cohen.

Young was taken into custody, and police found a Pennsylvania identification in her real name in her possession, records say.

She later admitted to her identity and to the fraud, and that her name was not Sasha Cohen, according to police.

Young was arraigned before District Judge Richard Yetter III on felony counts of theft, access device fraud and identity theft, and misdemeanor false identification.

She was released on $10,000 unsecured bail and faces a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled Feb. 17 before District Judge James Narlesky.

Young could not be reached for comment because no phone number could be found for her. Court records do not list an attorney for her.
