Two teens were arrested Thursday after on-duty police officers saw gunfire coming from a black SUV in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

Just before 6:50 p.m., officers on patrol in the 4700 block of South Loomis Boulevard saw gunfire coming from a black Saturn SUV, Chicago police said. The gunfire appeared to be aimed at a man who was not injured.

Officers followed the SUV to the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue where two teens got out and tried to run away, police said. Officers caught up to the teens and arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.

Police later learned the SUV had been reported stolen and weapons were found inside.

Criminal charges are pending against the teens.
