Grayson Allen scored 25 points and No. 18 Duke beat No. 8 North Carolina 86-78 on Thursday night.

Luke Kennard added 20 points and freshman Jayson Tatum had all 19 of his in the second half to help the Blue Devils (19-5, 7-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) win their fourth straight.

Justin Jackson scored 21 points and Joel Berry II finished with 15 for the Tar Heels (21-5, 9-3), who were just 10 of 18 from the free throw line — 8 of 15 in the second half — in dropping into a first-place tie with Florida State.

This renewal of one of college basketball’s fiercest rivalries lived up to its pedigree, with 17 lead changes, nine ties and neither team leading by more than eight points.

No. 10 UCLA 82, No. 5 Oregon 79

Aaron Holiday gave UCLA its first lead on a 3-pointer with 4 minutes remaining in the game and the 10th-ranked Bruins rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to beat No. 5 Oregon 82-79 on Thursday night.

Holiday and star freshman Lonzo Ball scored 15 points each, combining to score UCLA’s final seven points. Ball had 11 assists. The Bruins (22-3, 9-3 Pac-12) moved into a third-place tie with idle California in the league standings.

Dillon Brooks and Tyler Dorsey scored 19 points each for the second-place Ducks (21-4, 10-2). Dorsey missed a potential tying 3-pointer with 23 seconds left.

The Bruins closed with a furious rush, battling for rebounds after not getting back to defend early in the game. Holiday’s go-ahead basket was part of a 33-15 run to end the game.

No. 16 Purdue 69, Indiana 64

Vince Edwards matched his career-high with 26 points and Caleb Swanigan added 16 points and 14 rebounds Thursday night as No. 16 Purdue used a late charge to beat rival Indiana 69-64.

The Boilermakers (20-5, 9-3 Big Ten) have won three straight and six of seven to move into second place in the conference.

Thomas Bryant scored 23 points and James Blackmon Jr. added 11 in his return from a lower left leg injury. It still wasn’t enough for Indiana (15-10, 5-7), which has lost two in a row and four of five.

Indiana led 57-55 after Josh Newkirk’s 3-pointer with 4:56 to go, but the Boilermakers scored seven straight and then made it 64-59 when Swanigan completed a three-point play with 1:02 left.

Purdue sealed it from the free throw line. It has won four of the last five in this series — though this one came with a bizarre sequence that began with a blocking call on Swanigan with 44.5 seconds left. After conferring, the refs called a double foul, causing Bryant and Swanigan to foul out on the same play.

It was that kind of night in the state’s biggest rivalry.

Edwards scored 15 points in the first half that was every bit as back-and-forth as the second.

Purdue jumped to a 21-15 lead about 10 minutes into the game, but the Hoosiers charged back with a 9-0 run to take a 30-26 lead and closed the half on a 6-2 flurry to make it 36-32. Indiana stayed in front most of the second half — until the Boilermakers’ late charge.

No. 7 Wisconsin 70, Nebraska 69 (OT)

Nigel Hayes hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 18.4 seconds left in overtime and Ethan Happ blocked Tai Webster’s shot on Nebraska’s last try, giving No. 7 Wisconsin a 70-69 victory on Thursday night.

Nebraska’s Michael Jacobson forced overtime with his 3 just ahead of the buzzer, tying the game at 58-all.

Hayes scored 18 of his 20 points after halftime for the Badgers (21-3, 10-1 Big Ten), who won their eighth straight and 17th of their last 18.

Zak Showalter made 4 of 6 3s and finished with 15 points, and Bronson Koenig added 12 for Wisconsin.

Webster had 19 points and Glynn Watson Jr. added 15 for the Huskers (10-14, 4-8), who have lost eight of their last nine.

Illinois-Chicago 84, Youngstown State 81

Dominique Matthews scored a career-high 28 points and Illinois-Chicago closed on an 8-1 run to beat Youngstown State 84-81 on Thursday night.

Cameron Morse, who matched a career-best with 44 points, made a 3-pointer to give Youngstown State its last lead, 80-76 with 3:28 to play. K.J. Santos made a pair of free throws and Tarkus Ferguson hit a 3 and the Flames led 81-80. Morse missed 3-pointers on the Penguins’ next two possessions, and Clint Robinson made two free throws to stretch the lead to 83-80.

Morse and Mathews each split a pair of free throws to cap the scoring with 16 seconds left. Morse and Braun Hartfield both missed 3-point attempts on the final possession.

Matthews was 11 of 17 from the floor and made five 3-pointers. Tai Odiase added 12 points for UIC (13-12, 6-6 Horizon League).

Morse was 18-of-38 shooting, including 6 of 15 from long range for the Penguins (10-16, 4-9).

Seattle 90, Chicago State 65

William Powell scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had six assists to help Seattle beat Chicago State 90-65 on Thursday.

Seattle led by just three points at halftime and took its first double-digit lead at 70-59 on a Powell layup. His basket came during a 14-0 run to make it 77-59 with 5:16 to go.

Matej Kavas added 18 points and Zack Moore had 17, including five 3-pointers, for Seattle (12-11, 4-4 Western Athletic Conference). The Redhawks made 13 of 26 3-pointers and shot 57.9 percent overall.

Fred Sims Jr. scored 26 points for Chicago State (6-21, 1-8) and Trayvon Palmer added 23 points with nine rebounds. No other Cougar scored more than six.

It was originally scheduled to be played at the Cougars’ Jones Convention Center but it was moved up five hours and contested at the nearby Quest Multisport due to weather.
