San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow will scale back his schedule during the upcoming season, providing color commentary during 120 of the team’s 162 games, he told Bay Area radio station KNBR Thursday.

Krukow, 64, who suffers from a degenerative muscle disease, will be replaced during the other games by former Giants pitchers Jeremy Affeldt and Javier Lopez.

Affeldt or Lopez will appear with Krukow’s longtime broadcast partner, Duane Kuiper, or Dave Flemming when Krukow is absent.

Krukow told the station it was his decision to cut his appearances, not the team’s. He later told the San Francisco Chronicle his schedule will include all 81 Giants home games as well as road games against National League West opponents.

Krukow also told the paper he has no plans to retire.
