AKRON, Ohio – Akron fire officials are still trying to determine the causes of two Thursday 2-alarm fires.

The first fire broke out about 3 p.m. at a home on the 900 block of Danmead Avenue on Akron’s east side, according to a fire department news release. The fire appeared to have started in the basement before it worked its way through the house, causing extensive damage.

No one was injured, though the family that lived in the house is displaced, the fire department said.

The second fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. on the 700 block of Donald Avenue in the city’s Firestone Park neighborhood. The blaze destroyed four apartments, and no injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was called to help three families plus one individual who were displaced, the release says.
