A 19-year-old from South Elgin who could be suicidal has been reported missing and her mother and police are asking the public for help in finding her.

Stephanie Frederick left on foot from her South Elgin house on Haverhill Lane around midnight Thursday, and her mother believes she has her cellphone with her, village officials said.

Her cellphone last pinged at 9:20 a.m. in the areas of Route 25 and Army Trail Road and Route 25 and Stearns Road, Deputy Chief Randy Endean said.

She was reported missing at about 2:30 a.m.

Frederick is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 120 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair. She is possibly wearing a black Polo winter coat and black Nike shoes with an orange swoosh.

Stephanie was being treated for depression and could be suicidal, Endean said.

Police have checked with her known contacts, he said.

Forest preserves officials from Cook, Kane and DuPage counties have assisted with searches in the South Elgin areas, plus James Pate Philip forest preserve in Bartlett and Jon J. Duerr forest preserve in St. Charles, he said.

Police hope that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or state officials can help with aerial search, he said.

This is the second teenager reported missing in South Elgin since last year, but Endean said police do not believe the two cases are connected.

Kianna Galvin, now 18, disappeared in May after leaving her home on Concord Avenue, about a mile away from Frederick’s home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Elgin police at (847) 741-2151.
