BAYONNE — Residents were greeted with a blanket of snow covering the Peninsula City — along with the rest of the state — this morning.
As of 11 a.m., six inches of snow had blanketed Bayonne while the city’s public schools and municipal courts were all closed for the day, according to city spokesman Joe Ryan.
The city currently has 20 trucks working to clear the streets, and 250 tons of salt us been used, Ryan said.
Here is a roundup of information for Bayonne residents looking to brave the storm:
– The city is advising residents to restrain from driving in Bayonne unless absolutely necessary. Roads are slick and the DPW is working to clear the streets.
– All traffic signals are on flash in order to assist in snow plowing operations, according to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management. Use special caution if you are traveling through intersections.
– All parking meters are suspended, and all alternate side-street parking regulations are also currently suspended.
– A Broadway snow emergency route has been declared, according to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management, which means that there will be no parking on the east side of Broadway from 17th to 50th streets, and on the west side of Broadway from 17th to 30th streets.
– Additionally, parking is allowed in all municipal lots with no meter rule, however, there should be no parking in any Board of Education school lot.
– The Port Authority has announced that the Bayonne Bridge is open all day.
– Mayor Jimmy Davis has issued a Warming Center to be opened at the Midtown Community Center at 597 Broadway. It will remain open until 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
