Heavy snow in the mountains and some possible river flooding are headed our way, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

The agency issued a flood advisory for the eastern King and Pierce county lowlands until 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. Mason, King, Pierce, Lewis, Thurston and Grays Harbor counties are under flood watches.

An advisory means an event is likely, while a watch indicates a significantly increased risk of a weather event.

Minor flooding is expected this weekend on the Skokomish, White, Newaukum and Chehalis rivers, the NWS indicates.

These flood risks will be brought on by a warm and wet front moving through Western Washington.

Meanwhile, a frontal system will bring heavy snow to the Cascade Mountains, amounting to 10 to 18 inches of new snow Wednesday afternoon to Wednesday night.

One to two inches of snow is possible for Western Whatcom County.

In the long term, forecasters expect to see a dry spell during the weekend and into next week.
