Right before the game started Tuesday night, the news broke.

Chino Hills High student Alexis Anderson’s health took a turn for the worse. She needed emergency heart surgery.

That inspired students to hand out fliers with information on a GoFundMe page, which is raising money for her medical bills. It also inspired basketball player LaMelo Ball to score 92 points and dedicate last night’s game to her. Chino Hills defeated Los Osos 146-123.

Shortly after the game in which Ball scored 92 points, the second most in CIF Southern Section history, he tweeted about Anderson.

“92 points #love4lexi,” his tweet read.

“It’s overwhelming in a positive way,” Chino Hills High School principal Isabel Brenes said of the student-driven response. “The acts of kindness started on Friday when the news came out that she was unresponsive.”

Anderson became ill with a rare heart condition that put her on a transplant list and has been in the hospital fighting for her life.

“Chino Hills is known to band together when there is a need and to band together when we are experiencing times of peril,” Benes, whose daughter is one of Anderson’s good friends, said.
