JERSEY CITY — Detention hearings will be held Thursday for a man charged with fatally shooting an 18-year-old in Hoboken last month, and for a military veteran accused of staging a 12-hour standoff with police over the weekend in West New York.

Khalif Geiger, 20, of Jersey City, was arrested Jan. 25 and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Adrian Rivera, who was shot inside his family’s apartment in the Andrew Jackson Gardens public housing complex, officials said. A 17-year-old was also charged in Rivera’s murder.

The pair faces additional charges of felony murder, armed robbery, armed burglary and weapons offenses related to a firearm, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Emmanuel Hernandez is also due back in court four days after authorities say he exchanged gunfire with police before barricading himself in his home. Hernandez is charged with with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, eluding police, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and weapons offenses related to a gun, officials said.

Prosecutors moved to detain Geiger and Hernandez when each made their first court appearances on their respective charges in Criminal Justice Reform court.

At Thursday’s detention hearings, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale will decide if he can arrive at conditions of supervised release which will ensure the defendants will attend all their future court hearings, or if they are a risk to the public or to possible witnesses. The judge can order them held without bail if he finds they are a danger.

The hearings of each man will be held in the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City. A time for the hearings has not yet been set.
