A 27-year-old Santa Rosa man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for beating and stabbing a man because they were dating the same woman, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Joshua Raymond Henricksen was sentenced Thursday before Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite after pleading no contest in October to the 2015 assault with a weapon and infliction of great bodily injury.

“This was a very violent and unprovoked attack which warranted a lengthy prison sentence,” District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a statement.

The woman had dated Henricksen for several years, but told him she wanted to end the relationship. Though she continued to date him, she told him she was also dating another man, according to a press release. Henricksen went to the other man’s home in Rohnert Park and “brutally beat him” when he opened the door.

When the woman refused to go home with Henricksen, he slashed the other man multiple times and stabbed him once with a knife.
