A New Jersey man is currently on trial in Rhode Island on alleged violations from a fatal boat crash in 2015, according to the Westerly Sun.
Cooper Bacon, 76, a licensed captain, was driving a 60-foot yacht on Sept. 22, 2015 when it crashed into a 23-foot Steiger Craft, killing Walter Krupinski, 81, of Stonington, Conn., while he was fishing.
The collision took place off the coast of Westerly, R.I.
Bacon, of Cape May Court House, invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination on Monday and answered no questions.
In May, Bacon pleaded not guilty to three violations by the Rhode Island Deparment of Environmental Management’s Division of Law Enforcement – improper navigation or failure to have a lookout, failure to take action to avoid a collision, and improper overtaking of another vessel, the report said.
