A police pursuit that originated in Mount Vernon came to a head in the Bronx Tuesday morning when a police officer opened fire, shooting a woman in the fleeing car, sources said.
According to preliminary information, the Mt. Vernon police officer tried to pull the male driver and female passenger over somewhere in the cop’s jurisdiction sometime after 9 a.m.
When the driver refused to pull over, the officer followed the car in the Wakefield section of the Bronx and opened fire near Bronx Blvd. and East 234th St., sources said.
The woman in the passenger’s seat was struck by a bullet and taken to an area hospital for treatment. The male suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
