Lafayette has been chosen to receive an ambassador from the Solar Foundation this year to instruct city officials on how to reduce costs associated with solar installations and help make solar more affordable for residents.

Lafayette is one of 11 communities nationwide that has been chosen to receive services from a SolSmart Advisor, according to a news release on Monday.

“Local governments have the tools to make an enormous impact on solar energy growth in their communities,” Andrea Luecke, Solar Foundation’s president and executive director, said in a statement. “The SolSmart Advisors will use their professional expertise to help make these communities open for solar business.”

Municipalities, counties and regional organizations applied to host the advisers through a nationwide process. Communities were selected based on their potential to benefit from the in-depth technical assistance the advisers will provide to encourage solar energy growth. After completing training in Washington, D.C., the advisers will work in communities for up to six months.
