CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man and woman were pistol-whipped and robbed at gunpoint late Sunday as they walked through a Cleveland State University parking lot, according to campus police.

The robbery happened about 9:50 p.m. at the parking lot at the intersection of East 30th Street and Chester Avenue.

The two, who are not affiliated with the school, were approached by a group of five men, including two who were armed, police said.

One of the robbers pistol-whipped the man in the face and stole his cellphone. Another hit the woman in the face, according to police. Both the man and woman were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The group ran off south on East 30th, police said. One of the suspected robbers was arrested, according to police.

Cleveland police are investigating the robbery and trying to identify the other four involved.
