NEWARK — Devils goalie Cory Schneider isn’t shy about his fandom for the New England Patriots. Naturally, the roller coaster that was Super Bowl LI took its toll on the Devils’ goalie.

Some Devils gathered at defenseman Andy Greene’s house to watch the game on Sunday, and they got the added bonus of watching Schneider in agony while the Patriots fell in a big hole.

“The guys are pretty nice to me. They think it’s funny to watch me because I go quiet, then I get loud and then I get quiet, then I get nervous,” Schneider said. “I think enjoy just watching me squirm more than giving me a hard time.”

Donning a Patriots hat and a wide grin in the Devils’ locker room on Monday, Schneider had no more nerves while recapping a thrilling night for his favorite NFL team.

What Devils would lose without Elias

The Marblehead, Massachusetts native had plenty to be nervous about when the Atlanta Falcons took a 28-3 in the third quarter. It got to the point where Schneider and his wife, Jill, were preparing to leave early with their son, Wyatt.

But Schneider stuck it out and got rewarded in with the Patriots winning 34-28 in the first Super Bowl to ever go to overtime, saying he never lost faith in quarterback Tom Brady or head coach Bill Belichick.

“Never a doubt. Just had them right where we wanted them, let Tom do his thing,” Schneider said. “In Bill we trust.”

But don’t let Schneider’s confidence on Monday fool you. Forward Adam Henrique tells a different — and funnier — tale.

“Schneids was nervous almost the entire time,” Henrique said. “Don’t think he talked much. It was fun to watch.”
