“You like that!?” A charity flag-football ref certainly doesn’t after Kirk Cousins let his emotions get the best of him — again.
The Redskins quarterback and his team, battling a team led by Doug Flutie this weekend in a rematch of last year’s Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Challenge, was down 40-35 with seconds to go in the fourth quarter of the charity game.
With the game-winning touchdown on the line, the ball was tossed to an official to spot, only to be flicked away by a member of Flutie’s team. Looking for a penalty flag, Cousins lost his cool with the referee and shoved him.
Cousins’ team lost the game, and the ref at the center of the quarterback’s meltdown recalled the incident to Deadspin hours later.
“I’m the official that Cousins shoved. He was fired up because he was losing and running out of time,” he said. “Then the other team knocked the ball away while I was trying to set it for play. He wanted me to flag him for swatting it, but what he doesn’t know is that we were enforcing another penalty and it was going to give him another down. He never apologized or even showed any kind of regret. That’s ok though… everyone else gets to see how he is.”
Following the game, Cousins tweeted about the event without mention of the fateful encounter.
“Had a great time in Katy today playing in the @CelebritySweat1 game with @DougFlutie, @Freakyjean99 and @TheRocketRashad! #celebritysweat,” he shared with his 153,000 followers.
This year’s Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Challenge benefits military veteran programs in the Houston area.
Cousins, set to hit free agency next month, is hoping for a long-term deal to stay with the Redskins.
