Dense fog has settled in across Central Florida, reducing visibility in some spots to less than a quarter of a mile, forecasters say.

The fog started moving in early this morning and is expected to last through sunrise before lifting, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Most of the fog should disappear by 9 a.m.

Inland areas will likely see the thickest patches, but forecasters say the fog will likely move around and visibility could rapidly change.

Officials are urging drivers to use caution during the morning commute.

“If you encounter dense fog, reduce your speed, use only your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you,” the Weather Service said.

Once the fog lifts, forecasters say Central Florida can expect a fairly sunny — and warm afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to climb to near 79 degrees, several degrees above normal, according to the Weather Service.

Forecasters say the fog could return tonight and into Tuesday morning, so overnight drivers should look out for changing conditions. Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to reach the low-80s.
