LOS ANGELES >> Thousands of people are expected to demonstrate in downtown Los Angeles Sunday against President Donald Trump’s executive order fast-tracking the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines, organizers said.
Protesters are scheduled to gather at 10 a.m. at Pershing Square near 5th and Olive streets, then march to the Edward Roybal Federal Building at Hill and Temple streets for an 11:30 a.m. rally, according to Karen Pomer of Labor for Standing Rock.
“Over 5,000 people say they’re coming,” Pomer said about the demonstration organized by novice activist Isaac Price on Facebook. They will include activists from the labor, environmental and Native American rights movements.
“It’s going to be inspiring and energizing,” Pomer said.
“Citizens from across the country are finding a newly awoken activism,” Price said. “They are watching President Trump dismantle their freedoms one executive order at a time.”
