A man is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood.

Police officers on patrol heard a gunshot at 3:09 a.m. and shortly afterward received information that a man had been shot on Cooperfield Ave., according to Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

The officers found the man in the street, she said; he was transported to UPMC Mercy, where he was pronounced dead at 4:21 a.m.

Toler said the investigation is ongoing.
