Rutgers travels to State College, Pennsylvania, to face Penn State on Saturday, February 4, 2017 (2/4/17) in a Big Ten showdown. The Scarlet Knights are led by forward Deshawn Freeman and guard Corey Sanders, while the Nittany Lions are paced by junior captain Shep Garner and freshman Tony Carr.

For Rutgers, it marks the ninth away game in 13 outings since mid-December. The Scarlet Knights will be looking to avenge a 60-47 loss at the hands of the Nittany Lions on New Year’s Day.

In the loss, Mike Williams posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds but Rutgers was doomed by 17 turnovers and a season-low 28.6 percent shooting percentage.

While Rutgers is coming off a lackluster 83-63 home loss against Iowa, Penn State is fresh off a triple-overtime defeat at Indiana. The 110-102 decision on Wednesday marked Penn State’s first 3-OT game since 1982 and its first 100-point game in Big Ten play.

“That’s not who we are, the last game,” Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell said. “That’s got to change. We have to be tough. Toughness is not one of our strengths. We have to be tougher in these games.”

Pikiell gave his team the day off Wednesday, then was out recruiting Thursday so he’s curious to see how the Scarlet Knights respond to their most dismal effort of the season.

“I’m hoping that we respond the right way,” he said. “We are a young team. Maturity isn’t one of our strengths. The other night was unusual, I hope.”
