Bethlehem Catholic 56, Easton 37 – Rapid Recap

Bethlehem Catholic High School’s girls basketball team showed no signs of slowing down on Friday night.

The Golden Hawks, ranked No. 1 by lehighvalleylive, earned their 14th straight league victory this winter by handling No. 2 Easton 56-37 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Steel Division competition at Easton Area Middle School.

Turning point: Bethlehem Catholic made its first three shots to jump out to an 8-0 advantage, and led for the rest of the evening.

The Golden Hawks pulled away from the Red Rovers thanks to an 11-point second quarter from Taliyah Medina, in which the guard hit a trio of 3-pointers.

The visitors took a 29-19 lead into intermission and held Easton to just four field goals through the opening 12 minutes of the second half.

Top performers: Medina finished with 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Tessa Zamolyi contributed 16 points and six rebounds, and Neila Luma had nine points and nine rebounds for the Golden Hawks.

Kyla Smith had a team-high nine points for the Red Rovers. Shelby Stocker added eight points and seven rebounds.

What it means: With two more games left in the regular season (Dieruff and Allen), Becahi (18-2 overall, 14-0 EPC) is on track to enter the league playoffs as the unbeaten top seed.

Easton had a four-game winning streak snapped and is now 17-3, 12-2.
