OVI, Cedar Road: At 2:25 a.m. Jan. 26, police were called to the intersection of Cedar and South Taylor roads where a man was asleep at the wheel of his running car.

In the driver’s hands was an open can of beer. The car was in the drive position, and the man’s foot was on the brake. An officer knocked on the car’s window for a minute before waking the driver.

When told to put the car in park, the man said it already was in park. The driver released his foot from the brake and car rolled forward several feet before the driver brought it to a stop.

Police found the man to be intoxicated and charged him with OVI.

OVI, Superior Road: At 8:25 p.m. Jan. 26, an officer responded to a call of an unconscious man sitting behind the wheel of a running car at the intersection of Superior and South Taylor roads.

The man was found to have his foot on the brake while the car was in the drive position. The man’s head was slumped, resting on his chin, and he was drooling. Police could not wake the man by shouting at him through the closed car window or by rocking the car. Eventually, an officer used a lock-out device to enter the car and wake the man.

The man said he had not been drinking, but that had taken some medication. He would not tell police where he had just been.

After several field sobriety tests were administered, the glassy-eyed man, who had difficulty walking in a steady manner, was charged with OVI.

Hit-skip, Greyton Road: At 9 a.m. Jan. 27, the driver of a Cleveland Heights recycling/refuse truck was about to make a left turn when a Cadillac being driven behind the truck attempted to pass on the left side. The Cadillac driver didn’t leave enough room and sideswiped the bucket on the front of the truck. The truck experienced minor damage.

The Cadillac stopped about 500 feet ahead of the accident location. The driver got out to look at the damage to his car, but then drove away.

Domestic violence, Randolph Road: At 9:25 p.m. Jan. 26, police were called to a home where a woman, 22, and her aunt, 61, had argued. The argument escalated to the point where each used a knife to cut the other.

The younger woman was found with a cut on her arm, while her aunt had cuts on her nose and face. The aunt was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both were charged with domestic violence and assault. Because there were children present, both were also charged with child endangerment.

Burglary, Woodview Road: At about 6 p.m. Jan. 26, a woman returned to her home after being away since 8 a.m. and found the window to her son’s bedroom broken out. Stolen was the boy’s video gaming system. A second PlayStation in the room was left untouched.

Burglary, Parkhill Road:  At 4:20 p.m. Jan. 28, a man and his wife returned home to find the house’s front door open. The couple rarely use the front door, so they knew something suspicious had taken place.

The home’s basement and second floor were ransacked. Stolen was a 50-inch television, a gold watch and two pairs of tennis shoes. Two PlayStation video game systems were removed from where they had been and placed by the door.

Fleeing and eluding, Superior Road: At 12:40 a.m. Jan. 27, an officer spotted a car that was found to be traveling 47 miles per hour in a 35-miles-per-hour zone. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the offending auto sped up and turned down several streets.

The suspect auto eventually crashed into a tree at East Overlook and Superior roads. The driver, who was not injured, was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding.

Disorderly conduct, Euclid Heights Boulevard: At 11:20 p.m. Jan. 26, police received a complaint about loud music coming from a car parked in a municipal lot.

The responding officer could hear the music from more than 100 feet away. The driver was cited for disorderly conduct/loud music.

Also in the car was a male passenger. The passenger was found to be wanted on a warrant issued by Macedonia police for marijuana possession. Police arrested the passenger.

Disorderly conduct, Noble Road: At 3:10 p.m. Jan. 29, police were dispatched to the yard of a home where a man and woman were arguing and tugging at each others’ coats. Police learned that the two disagreed about the ownership of a cell phone.

It was found that the man, 21, was wanted on a South Euclid police warrant. The man admitted that the phone belonged to the woman, 32. Both were cited for disorderly conduct and the man was picked up by South Euclid police.
