A Feb. 1 article about Toronto’s Silver Dollar Room closing down stated that the venue will be closing its doors "for good" on May 1. In fact, according to stipulations set down by the Ontario Municipal Board, when the site is redeveloped the space must be rebuilt as the Silver Dollar Room with the original exterior sign and other heritage elements used. The site redevelopment agreement also stipulates that the room must include a set-up for live music. According to Ward 20 Councillor Joe Cressy, while the city cannot stipulate how the redeveloped space is used, the agreement stipulates it can only be used for commercial entertainment purposes.
