TABERNACLE TWP. — A Pemberton man has been indicted for allegedly shooting and killing his former employer in what was supposed to be a robbery, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

David M. Stead, 42, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third-degree theft by unlawful taking.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the grand jury indictment was returned Thursday. Stead’s arraignment will be held “soon,” authorities said, nothing that he remains in Burlington County Jail on $1 million full bail.
According to previous reports, Stead allegedly shot and killed Thomas Wright II, 49, inside of Wright’s residence on Patty Bowker Road, in Tabernacle, on July 1, 2016. New Jersey State Police troopers responded to the residence after Wright’s father reportedly discovered the victim’s body.
Wright operated Artisan Building Creations out of his home. Authorities say family went to check on him after he failed to show up for work.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Stead was once employed by Wright and the purpose of the early-morning July 1, 2016 visit was a robbery.
“Once inside, Stead shot Wright multiple times in the head and neck, then fled with a small amount of cash in a rented pickup truck that was being used by the victim,” the prosecutor’s office said Friday in a news release, adding that the truck was later found less than a mile from Stead’s residence along Colemans Bridge Road.
